Pet Care Pharmacy

Ear Infection in Dogs & Cat

At Allambie Veterinary Clinic, we’re proud to offer a fully stocked pharmacy tailored to the health needs of dogs and cats. We understand the importance of timely access to medications, which is why we carry a wide range onsite.

Fast, Convenient Service

When you request a medication your pet has previously been prescribed, or one recommended by our vets, your request goes to a vet for review. The vet will review your pet’s medical history and determine whether the medication is still appropriate and safe. In some cases, a consultation may be required to examine your pet in person before a decision can be made. If the veterinarian approves the medication, it will be prepared for you to collect. We kindly ask for at least 24 hours’ notice before pickup to ensure our veterinary team has enough time to make up the medication, especially during busy periods. Once prepared, your pet’s medication will be kept safely at the clinic until you’re ready to collect it. If you would like a text, we can send you a text when it is ready to be collected. We aim to make pet care easy and stress-free. Medications can be picked up directly from our clinic.

How It Works

As a licensed veterinary clinic, we follow professional and legal guidelines when dispensing prescription medications. To ensure your pet is receiving the most effective and appropriate treatment, we are required to examine them at least once every six months. These regular check-ups allow us to monitor your pet’s condition, adjust dosages if needed, perform blood tests when necessary, and check for any new health concerns or medication side effects. After your pet has been assessed, we can prescribe and dispense medication directly from our onsite pharmacy, often on the same day. This helps save time and ensures continuity of care, with all decisions made by a veterinarian who knows your pet’s full medical history.

Common Medications

Common medications that can often be filled after a phone request and veterinary review include: We stock a wide range, including:

· Heart & blood pressure medications

· Ongoing treatment for hormonal conditions (e.g. diabetes, thyroid, hypoadrenocorticism)

· Allergy & skin treatments

· Anxiety & behavioural meds

· Seizure medications

· Chronic pain & arthritis relief

Some medications may require a consultation. If you’re unsure, call us and we’ll advise.

Do I need an appointment to get medications for my pet if they’ve never had this medication before and a veterinarian has never recommended this medication before?

Yes. We must examine your pet before dispensing a new medication to ensure it is appropriate, effective, and safe for their condition.

Can I refill a prescription without a consultation?

If your pet is up to date with their six-monthly check-up and their ongoing treatment has been approved, we can usually provide repeat medications without a consultation. Just give us a call, our vets will review your pet’s file and dispense the medication if appropriate.

What if my pet needs medication urgently?

We aim to provide medications as quickly as possible, especially in urgent cases. Certain medications; such as seizure, behavioural, and heart medications, should not be stopped suddenly. We recommend keeping a small supply at home, but if you run out, please call the clinic immediately so we can help.

Can I get advice about medications?

Absolutely. Our veterinary team is always available to answer your questions about dosage, side effects, administration techniques, or any other concerns you may have.
